Response from Mr. Kull
You do not automatically get infected with HIV when you are exposed to a person who is infected with HIV. The reasons for this are complicated to explain here, but factors such as viral load, location of exposure, presence of STIs, type of fluid contact, and immune response of the exposed person will influence the likelihood of transmission. When you have unprotected sex with someone who is HIV infected (vaginal and anal primarily), you have a known exposure which increases the odds of transmission. It is important that you get tested for HIV, practice safer sex with your partners until you know your HIV status, and consult with a doctor who can monitor your health. RMK | |||
