 The Red Cross does not screen the blood supply for hepatitis G virus. HGV is not understood well enough to be a priority for screening of the blood supply. The CDC has not been able to identify any people who have been infected with HGV through a blood transfusion since surveillance began in 1991. Most people identified with HGV are coinfected with HCV, and the blood supply is screeend for the presence of HCV. This could theoretically greatly reduce the risk of HGV transmission through blood transfusions. RMK | ||||||||
