saliva rectum

May 10, 2002

I recently was with a person who spit saliva on their fingers and placed the tip of a finger up my rectum. I was concerned. No other contact occurred. Should I consider this a very low risk activity?

Response from Mr. Kull

HIV is not known to be transmitted through contact with saliva, regardless of the location where the saliva came into contact. This is an extremely low-risk activity.

See Saliva as a Barrier for more info.
