oral sex the same as kissing ?
May 2, 2002

If receiveing oral sex is a way to get HIV (however unlikely) wouldnt kissing be just as risky ? I mean in both cases you have nothing but skin protecting you from saliva...and the skin on your penis is even thicker then in your mouth. Can you explain the diffirence ?

Thank you for your time

Response from Mr. Kull

There really isn't that much difference, since in both cases the exposure is to saliva, which is a fluid that is not implicated in transmission of HIV. Skin being exposed to fluids really isn't the issue; HIV can be transmitted when infected fluids come into contact with mucous membranes (the lining of the urethra, vagina, rectum, and mouth). Intact skin is an effective barrier to HIV.

See Saliva as a Barrier for more information.
