Response from Mr. Kull
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is the actual virus that can infect a person and impair an compromise the immune system, to the point that they are susceptible to opportunistic infections and cancers. When your body is invaded by a virus, your immune system produces something called antibodies, which attempt to fight the virus and protect your long-term health. HIV antibodies are antibodies that are specifically developed by your body to fight HIV. A person who is HIV infected develops a significant amount of antibodies approximately three weeks after infection. These antibodies remain for life. This is one reason why tests to detect HIV infection look for antibodies, and not the virus itself. RMK | |||
