How long does it takes before this disease kill you? Can you have sex with an infected person?

Response from Mr. Kull

The time it takes for a person to progress from infection to AIDS-related illness varies in every individual. Some sources say that it takes an average of 10 years. Please read Approximate timeline of testing and symptoms of AIDS for more information.

You can have sex with an infected person, but there is a risk that you might get infected yourself. It is important that you try your best to avoid more risky activities, like receptive or insertive anal or vaginal intercourse without condoms. Using barriers (like latex condoms and dental dams) to prevent fluids from coming into contact with your mucous membranes (lining of anus, vagina, and mouth) is advisable.
