serocoversion or just a cold
Feb 28, 2002

Dear Dr. Kull,

I am a male who received oral sex in Central Africa, I tested negative 3 months and five days after the exposure. Fourteen weeks after the exposure I came down with a bad cold, I have been coughing up green flem. Should I be concerned and get tested again or is this just a normal cold and my fears are getting the best of me. THANK YOU

Response from Mr. Kull

Testing at three months after exposure is sufficient. It is also highly unlikely that you would have been infected through receiving oral sex. Your symptoms are probably related to something else: see a doctor if they continue or get worse.
