Most effective type of condom?
Nov 17, 2000

Ryan,

Given the latest information (specifically the news that N-9 may actually contribute to HIV transmission), what brand of condoms would you recommend as the most effective and trustworthy for heterosexual men?

Response from Mr. Kull

Condoms that are sold on the market need to pass certain guidelines set by the Food and Drug Administration. Any of these that you buy will be effective and trustworthy. I would recommend that people use an unlubricated condom in addition to a water-based lubricant that does not contain spermicides and is tolerated well by both partners. Try masturbating with a lubricant to see if it causes irritation. If it does, don't use it.

Take a look at the Consumer Reports Condom Ratings and Condoms and Dams information on this website.
