Please Doctor, I Am A Mess
Nov 8, 2009

Hi Dr. Bob,

I was in a three year relationship with my ex-boyfriend. He was a Dental student here in San Francisco. I feel totally tormented because I completely trusted him. I thought because we got serious (right away) and because we were "soul mates", that I didn't have to worry about HIV with him, we talked about marriage afterall and I thought for sure we were going to be married after he graduated college (naieve). So I had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with him for 3 years. After a year and a half into our relationship he became distant and sometimes I wouldn't hear from him or see him for 4 days at a time, always around the weekend. I just thought he was under pressure from school, which he was. Then just before graduation he breaks up with me and confesses to have "experimented" with other people, and no he was not always careful. After the breakup with him I never saw him again. I talked with him only a few times over the phone. I started to think about HIV. I became more and more terrified and thought I have to have it. Although I was tested for other sti's and cleared, I waited 2 1/2 years to be tested for HIV because I was too scared. Thankfully my test was negative. Dr. Bob can I trust this one test after 3 years of unprotected sex? My friends think I need one more because of all the sex I had with him. My test was done with Labcorp. Please Dr. Bob, I am not trying to put you on the spot but what is your feelings about Labcorp and the HIV test they did for me. It was HIV antibody EIA test. Thank you for reading my long post. Don't know what to do. I just want to move on from this hell and feel it will be a great pleasure to donate to your foundation.

   Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello Elizabeth,

Your negative HIV EIA 2.5 years after your last exposure to the dastardly dentist is definitive and conclusive. HIV is not your problem. No way. No how. No additional HIV tests are warranted (despite what your friends say).

Thank you for your donation to The Robert James Frascino AIDS Foundation (www.concertedeffort.org). I'm confident your Mr. Right is still out there waiting to give you the "happily ever after" you deserve.

Be well.

Dr. Bob
