Doc, 4th time asking and I need help!
Apr 3, 2008
Here I am again spilling my heart out to you Dr. I really do understand your busy and have recently accepted maybe your not answering cause you think I have no need to worry but I will ask again.
My questions are:
I had unprotected sex with a girl at a party who was a friend and at the time did not worry about any stds. I then suddenly came down with a extreme case of OCD and HIV was the center of my complusive worry. I went to get tested at my personal doctors around five months after the event. It was closer to five and a half but to be safe lets say 5 months. It came back negative and I was relieved but i heard some people can take up to six months to a year! I was stunned and my obsessive thoughts came back. I have read your archives everyday since I discovered the site to put my mind at ease. but lets get down to it!
1)Should I be retested after my negative result at 5 months?
2) I was stabbed by a friends nail and started to bleed a few seconds after, is this a risk of transmission? His nails were shortly cut and the cut was caused by force.
Dr. Bob you are a remarkable man, you give comfort to all that are concerned even when you yourself are HIV +. Your kind words and konowledge have got me through some rough times when I thought I was going to do something dumb because of my worry.
I plan on donating and was wondering how to do so. God bless you and all your work my good friend that I have never spoke to or met.
Oh and btw this is that Track Athlete again.
God bless.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello Track Athlete Again,
1. I would consider your negative five-month test to be definitive and conclusive.
2. You can get HIV by being "nailed," but not that kind of nailed! Rather, it would have to be commando Rambo hide-the-salami type of nailed.
Donation information for the Robert James Frascino AIDS Foundation can be found on the foundation's Web site at www.concertedeffort.org.
Remember, a thin piece of latex can prevent having to endure future episodes of anxiety!
Be safe. Be well.
Dr. Bob
