Cat allergy and HIV
Jun 20, 2009

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I saw a similar question here.

I have a cat allergy and have recently moved in with a friend who has two cats, because I needed the accommodation at that moment.

I was wondering, would this allergy affect my lymphocyte % or Cd4% and absolute numbers? Is it important for me to move out of the house? I have recently had a large (34% to 44%) increase in my lymphocyte percentage, with a decline in the CD4 % but an increase in the CD4 absolute.

Would this be because of the reaction to the allergy?

I have been living with my friend for 3 weeks, and the aforementioned tests were taken in December 08 and May this year (recently).

Could you give me any general advice about this allergy situation?

I have itchy eyes, a runny nose, am generally fatigued, etc.

Thanks

Hi,

Cat allergy would not affect your CD4 absolute number or percentage. However, if you have cat allergy and move in with someone who has two cats, you could certainly have a significant flare in your allergy-related symptoms runny nose, sneezing, itchy/watery eyes, asthma, skin rash, etc. This may not be the best living situation for you!
