Before starting treating a montha go, Viral Load was 244000. Month later Viral Load down to 3000. CD4/CD8 ratio increased from 21 to 23%. Reyataz, Truvada and NOrvir is the regimen. Good response thus far?
Response from Dr. Sherer
Yes, this is a good response so far. Your viral load fell by almost two logs, which is an excellent initial virologic response. I would not expect significant CD4 response in the first month, and you did not have one, i.e. a change from 21% to 23% is not a significant change. The second value would have to be 24% or more for the change to be clinically significant and outside of the range of the normal variation of the test.
Your most important responsibility in this delicate first six months of ART is to take every dose as prescribed. If you do that, you will be likely to see your viral load fall below detection, and your CD4 cells increase by 100 cells per year.
I suggest that you talk to your doctor about your concerns and these responses.
