wildtype
Dec 8, 2000

after taking a drug holiday for 3 months (have been on varied combos for 7 years) due to kidney problems, my latest genotype came back "wild" (no resistance to anything). does anyone know how long this could last? actually, does anyone know much about this at all?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Some people profess to know a lot. However, the data is still emerging as to the wisdom of this strategy. Your resistance report is entirely consistent with what we would expect when your native virus (for illustration purpose only) reverts back to "wild type" (without drug resistance mutations). Wild type virus will remain the dominant type in you as long as you stay off drugs. However, the tradeoff will be that wildtype virus will cause further CD4 declines in you.
