Mouth lesions
Jul 28, 2000

I don't know what type of infection I have in my mouth? On each side of my mouth(cheek area) there are two white lines/tubes that go from my molar area and finish on the interior area of my lower lip. This has been going on for almost two/three weeks. I have been on Valtrex for three days but I don't think these are a herpes sores. Any ideas?

Response from Dr. Reznik

In the vast majority of cases, herpetic lesions which are managed by Valtrex, would appear on keratinized or fixed tissues not the inside of the cheeks. What you have described sounds very much like cheek biting, which would cause a white line usually along the area that matches up with where the teeth meet. A general dentist should be able to determine the nature of the problem listed in the question above.

Take care,

DR
