 HIV cannot be transmitted via casual contact such as kissing. The issues surrounding transmission of HIV via oral intercourse are not as cleanly defined. There are differing articles which point to a minimal chance of transmission (visit the Oral Manifestations of HIV Infection and access the article "Oral Transmission of HIV: A Review of the Evidence" and the Update Section for other reports. After reading through most of the articles pertaining to oral transmission of HIV and conversations with other experts in this field, I am of the opinion that whereas transmission is possible it is highly unlikely. Does this mean we should abandon years of safe sex practices? No. As mentioned above, although transmission is unlikely, it is possible. Therefore using common sense approach would be my advice. Do not allow someone to ejaculate in your mouth and continue to practice other safer sex practices. Take care, DR |
