| What are the chances??? Jul 7, 1999 Hi, I wonderes what are the chances of getting infected with Hiv if I have a french kiss with someone while I have some gum disease??? Will the risk be higher if there is visible blood??? What do you really mean by visible blood? Please kindly answer my question, I am really troubled. |

Response from Dr. Reznik
The one case that I am aware of where transmission occurred during deep kissing, both participants had severe gum (periodontal) disease with active bleeding, i.e. blood within the mouth. Many people have some degree of periodontal disease and actively engage in deep kissing. There has not been any association between gum disease, french kissing, and HIV transmission other than the one case referenced above. I hope this clears up a thing or two! DR |
