| Worried about Thrush Sep 13, 1999 Reading some articles, I have found that Thrush is associated with HIV and AIDS, just because a person has thrush does this mean that they possibly are infected with the HIV virus? |

Response from Dr. Reznik
There are numerous reasons why a person may present with thrush (candidiasis), including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, uncontrolled diabetes, use of asthma inhalers, use of systemic corticosteroids such as prednisone, etc. In a more broad sense, there are not any oral manifestations we see in association with HIV/AIDS that are only seen in this patient population. If a person does develop thrush, they should go see their primary care provider to determine what the possible underlying condition or cause may be. Take care, DR |
