| Dry mouth Jan 21, 2002 I have been experiencing dry mouth after sleeping and have geographic tongue for 3 months now. I started using breathe right strips at nite and these have helped my dry mouth a lot (less mouth breathing) but I am wondering what I can do to treat geographic tongue - my doctor says let it run its course and offered nothing. |

Response from Dr. Reznik
Geographic tongue is thought to be an autoimmune disorder that is, in most cases, not treated. If you case is causing discomfort, you can rinse with a topical steroid mouth rinse, such as Decadron elixir (0.5mg/5mL), 3 to 4 times a day for relief. Be sure not to swallow the steroid, as the topical effects of this preparation are effective. I hope this helps! DR |
