Bactrim with diflucan

Hi Doc...kudos on the great work you do, i have a question i hope you might help me with. A good friend of mine complained of pain in her gums, she visited the dentist and was told she needed a root canal but the swelling was still too severe to do it now. She was given bactrim with diflucan, i thought bactrim was an HIV med? Do you perscribe bactrim to immunocompetent patients? Just Curious.

Bactrim is a commonly used antibacterial agent that is used for treatment of several conditions other than its use for prevention of PCP in people living with HIV/AIDS. Other common uses of Bactrim are for urinary tract infections, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, middle ear infections, etc.
