dry mouth and tongue sores
Apr 24, 2000

Dr, i had a in encounter about a year ago now .

I've been tested for hiv fives in 10 months time , All

were negative. But i'd say about 6 months in to the last

few tests I've been get tongue sores on the tip of my tongue

there white with a red halo , I also have really bad dry

mouth in the morning when waking up . This has been for about

four months now , In the meantime i've tested again .Worried

that they are a cause of hiv , it came back negative .But I

they keep coming off and on . I've never gotten this before

, my question would be is that at 6 months time plus more

when have this wouldn't my body be making antibodies to fight them off if it was result of hiv? i'm at 91/2 months

with negative tests ,should i test again ?

Response from Dr. Reznik

As you know, it is impossible to offer an accurate diagnosis via this forum, but what you have described sounds very much like recurrent aphthous ulcerations (RAU). One of the factors which has been associated with RAU is stress. Whereas we do see aphthous ulcerations in people living with HIV/AIDS, these are commonly seen in the general population as well. Would I recommend another diagnostic test based on the information you have offered: no.

Hope this helps!

DR
