Ask the Experts about Oral Health and HIV

trush
Dec 12, 2000

I developed a vey mild case of truch, and I made a visit to see my family MD and he gave me mycelex tabs to use after using one-two tabs the truch was gone. In return,I had a HIV test done at the local Health Department and my test came back (+). I then scheduled myself a/an appointment with a HIV Doctor and he gave me a head/toe exam, once he was finished i ask him did everything look ok he repied " I would have not known a thing was wrong if you had not had a test done". He drew several tubes of blood to check my CD4 level and a HIV RNA test and some others. Since I had the trush does that mean my CD4 level is below 200? He also gave me a flu shot and pneumonia vaccine and I'm awaiting the results of the lab work. Please answer as soon as possible. I'm very afraid and hope for the best. Thank You

Response from Dr. Reznik

There is no conclusive evidence relating CD4 counts to oral manifestations, so I would not assume you have a CD4 count less than 200 based on this information alone.

Take care and be well,

DR
