HIV and metabolife
May 1, 2000
I have been positive for 10 years, and have recently (within the last year) gone on a rigorous diet and exercise program to lose weight and build muscle. I have been on Metabolife 356 for the past month and a half to help increase my metabolism and burn some of the stored fat that my body had. I used to weigh over 220 pounds and now weigh 182. My question is: Are there any negative effects on the immune system or any other bodily function in HIV+ people as a result of the Metabolife? I have heard yes and no. Please answer. Sincerely, Thinner in Arizona
Response from Dr. Dieterich
I am delighted for you and I am sure the exercise and diet are helping. I am not sure what Metabolife is. Can you list the ingredients for me so I can tell what is in it? It is hard to know every ingredient of every product. I would also address this to any questioners who are taking over the counter supplements. If you are asking about it, please include the ingredients from the label. I would read the label first if you brought the supplement into the office. Thanks Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D.
