Vaccine
Oct 9, 2013

Hi Nelson,

Someone else asked about the vaccine and you told him/her to ask you after Sep 20th. Can you update all of us !!!! When is the once a month vaccine will be avaliable? Will this vaccine work for every hiv+ person? Can't wait!!!!

Response from Mr. Vergel

To be honest with you, it was a little depressing to learn at that conference that we are so far away from finding a vaccine that will work in those of us who are already infected. The most promising data so far is from Dr Picker's work in monkeys using SIV and a CMV vector. But only a portion of the monkeys responded. CMV can cause disease and inflammation in humans so they are looking at another vector and changing the approach a bit before moving forward.

I will be posting summaries that are now being written by different activists that attended the two conferences (one was held in Sept in Maryland and the other just ended in Barcelona)

There is hope. There are many types of vaccines being tested, but we are years away from an effective one. If you want to take a look at the current pipeline of trials, read this great report put together by TAG and I-Base :

Preventive Technologies, Research Toward a Cure, and Immune-Based and Gene Therapies
