Appropriate physician language
Oct 1, 2013
I've asked this question without a response so I'll ask again: Recently my HIV doctor and PA used the words shit, cock and balls on several occasions during our conversations. I do not have any type of association with them outside of my professional care. I am offended by this use of language. Should I be? How should I handle this? I am considering a new HIV clinic.

Profane and offensive language by health care providers is not appropriate. If no reasonable explanation for such language is offered (hard to imagine circumstances when appropriate unless trying to describe human waste or sexual activity as a part of patient education in rare settings) then your discomfort is reasonable and consideration of switching care settings/clinicians is warranted.
