Follow up to Hypogonadism question...

Mar 13, 2012

Hello Vergel

I understand that having Hypogonadism does not mean you have HIV. But, does having Hypogonadism cause gynecomastia central obesity? I mean if your fat seems to deposit on chest and belly only, but have normal size arms and legs. in relation to your belly and chest. Can that be caused by Hypogonadism. Because when I was 10 years old. I developed gynecomastia pretty bad. Other kids would tease me, one even would write a W on my school work. I am only finding out that I have Hypogonadism at 35 years old. A friend told me to have my testosterone checked. I did and it was low 191 ng/. My doc says it is Primary Hypogonadism. Here is what I got at age 10. 1. gynecomastia full B-Cup. 2. abdominal bloating. 3. Wide Hips. I was not tall nor am I tall now. But having Moobs has been hard. I can now wear a full C- Cup. But I don't wear bras. Just used for reference. Sorry for long blog. Just want to know, if any of this sounds like I may have had Hypogonadism since a kid. Thanks again!

Response from Mr. Vergel

With your history of gynecomastia, I would definitely have your doctor check your estradiol blood level (ultrasensitive test) to ensure that it is not high now that you are on testosterone replacement therapy. Testosterone can convert into estradiol which is a hormone associated with female characteristics in high blood concentrations. Some men have to use low doses of a estradiol blocker (aromatase inhibitor) like anastrozole along with testosterone gels or injections. Let me know when you find out what your estradiol is.
