HIV+ and taking care of new grandchild
Aug 31, 2010

Q: My husband is HIV poz (undected viral load) x 17 years now and doing "great". I am (-). We have our 1st grand child and as all children do, the baby (7 mos. old) sometimes tries to nibble on our hands. Baby has a couple of teeth. I tell my husband that this is dangerous and not to allow, as the baby COULD draw blood. Husband thinks I'm crazy but to appease me, doesn't allow baby to play that way. Also husband has allergies. Can he transfer any HIV to baby if he: sneezes, breathes on, is right "in the face" playing .. making noise (raspberries, etc..). I want to keep my grand child PERFECT/HEALTHY and don't find any information on a "poz caregiver taking care of baby". Thank you kindly and God bless you for your help with questions like mine. I hope I do not sound too wordy.

Response from Mr. Vergel

The answer to your questions is NO, your husband cannot infect the baby by doing all the things you mentioned.
