does it mean wen a person is HIV positive, there's no possibility of gaining weight

May 27, 2010

When a person is HIV positive,is there a possibility for the person to gain weight? What are the kind of food that would make an HIV patient look heathy.

Response from Mr. Vergel

The average person who starts HIV treatment gains weight. Only those with uncontrolled HIV replication, infections, diarrhea, organ related issues, hormonal unbalance, decreased appetite or increased nausea, or who have no food access while living with HIV have problems with involuntary loss of weight. But, in general, we HIVers have to be as careful as others not to gain too much weight once our HIV viral load is controlled.
