| Age of infection and progression Mar 23, 2010 I have read in many places that the age of infection influences the rate of progression to Aids. Would that also include progression to the the early and medium symptomatic stage. |

Response from Mr. Vergel
Yes and no. Older patients seem to have less robust CD4 increases when they start HAART, but they have better adherence and tend to take care of themselves better, which sometimes correlates with better health in general. Health is not only measured by the magnitude of the increase of CD4 cells but also how well the person takes care of his/herself and their exposure to coinfections, toxic substances, stress, street drugs, and even negative thoughts.
