HIV and liposuction
May 12, 2009

Hello, thanks for having this great website, it is very informative and helps a lot in learning about HIV whether you are positive or not. I have been positive for 2 years now, and during those times I have kinda slacked on working out and exercise, started on atripla about a year ago and now I am back to my usual healthy status with CD4 over 500, undetectable viral load. So in short I am in very good health. I am not sure if it is because of the medication or just the lack of exercise that I have accumulated fat tissues around my waist. for the past months I have been back on my strenuous exercise with cardio and lifting weight but doesn't seem to eliminate the fats around my waist. I am thinking of undergoing liposuction or have heard of something similar to it that uses laser energy to melt the fat and sculp my lower abdominal area. How safe will this be for someone like me who is HIV positive? what are the risks that I may face? Am I going to be more susceptible to infection than those who are not positive? Do u have any recommendations as what procedure is good for me?

Response from Mr. Vergel

It usually takes more than 8 weeks to see changes in body shape with exercise.

I suggest that you call one of the doctors listed by my pozhealth members in this link and ask him or her. Click on "View" in question 4 http://www.surveymonkey.com/sr.aspx?sm=rc8hHUnWoT5VVui7aS9Q_2fsfxahbyw7goBCGlfANmm4A_3d

Good luck. Keep working out and keep your animal fats and sugars down.

Nelson
