Supplements for liver
Apr 11, 2009

Hello, I have been recently diagnosed with HIV and started my ATRIPLA medication 2 months ago. A nutritionsit friend of mine recommended a TOTAL LIVER DETOX supplement that contains the enzyme protease amongst many other natural ingredients to help the liver function better. Is it ok to take with ATRIPLA? Is Atripla a protease inhibitor?

Response from Mr. Vergel

Atripla is a combination of a non nucleoside (sustiva- efavirenz) and two nucleoside analogs (emtriva and tenofovir)

Why are you taking a liver supplement? Do you need it? I worry that some of these supplements may have interactions with HIV meds, so if your liver enzymes are Ok, I would try to avoid them.

Nelson
