| Insulin Resistance and Exercise Dec 28, 2008 Hi Nelson. I am 43y/o and going on 18yrs HIV+. I am currently taking Sustiva and Epzicom and have an undetectable viral load and CD4 count of 810. My AST is 93 and ALT is 114 and I have been diagnosed with a mildly fatty liver. I am also on Metformin 500mg BID, Crestor 10mg QD, and Lovaza 2gm BID. I have recently begun an excerise program of 6 days a week of cardio, 45min per day. My doctor said this is not negotiable and will do me as much good as any pill. I have also begun a low glycemic diet. Do I need to add resistance training and if so is there any good routines you can suggest? I know I am taking a lot of meds that can raise liver enzymes, but I am trying to do all I can to reverse this problem. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks and Happy Holidays. |

Response from Mr. Vergel
You are doing exactly what you need to do, except add resistance exercise with weights and machines 3 times a week for an hour, plus your cardio. This is my favorite exercise web site. It shows you exercise videos for every muscle. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html Metformin, Crestor and Lovaza (Omega 3 oils) are a good combo to decrease the fat in your liver. If you have big problems with lipids even after taking that combo, talk to your doctor about switching you away from Sustiva to lipid friendlier drugs like Isentress. Nelson | ||||||||||
