| Acomplia May 4, 2008 Dear Dr Vergel I have been on sustiva and combivir for almost 4 years now. Since then I have gained some pounds of fat around my belly, my legs look a lith thinner and my chest a litthe bigger. I am always in diet and workout out 4 days a week and can't seem to lose it. In my country was approved recently Acomplia (rimonabanto).Do you think I coult take it? |

Response from Mr. Vergel
If you have access to tenofovir in your country, I would talk to your doctor about switching you from Combivir to Tenofovir + Emtriva or Epivir, plus Sustiva. This switch may help stop the loss of fat in your leg, arms, butt and face. Acomplia seems to be effective in blocking appetite and people lose weight on it. But the FDA blocked its approval in the US due to depression and CNS related side effects, so you need to be careful if you are about to start it. We also do not know about potential interactions with HIV meds. Have you tried a low carb diet? There are difficult to follow for long periods of time, but some people have reported good results. I wish we had data on these types on diets in HIV. Let us know what you decide to do! Nelson | ||||||||||
