tips for staying healthy while not on meds
Apr 3, 2008

Im a married woman, 32, diagnosed in October. I dont need meds yet because my cd4 is over 500. In the mean time, I really want to concentrate on staying healthy and eating well. Any special rules you can recommend or anything?

Response from Mr. Vergel

1- Make sure your viral load is not high (as a patient, I think anything above 20,000 copies/cc is not great), 2- Take a multivitamin with every meal, 3- Exercise with cardio and machines three to four times a week for an hour, 4- Find ways to relax and decrease stress (hobbies, music, yoga, meditation, laughing, etc), 5- Before you get out of bed, wish yourself a good day and go over your main goals for the day, 6- Think "color variety" when you eat fruits and vegetables, 7- Make sure everytime you eat (even snacks) you are balancing proteins (chicken, lean beef, eggs, fish, nuts, etc), carbohydrates (whole grains), and good fats (olive oil, oily fish), 8- Surround yourself with people smarter and kinder than you, 9- Volunteer to a cause you love (life purpose is key to health), 10- Make sure that you have a supportive physician with experience in HIV, 12- Keep a healthy body weight for your height, and 11- Keep reading posts at thebody.com!
