| Chronic Nausea Apr 2, 2001 I had mono 6 years ago, and have had chronic nausea since then. I have tried compazine, which I'm allergic to, Regalin, Prilosec, Aciphex, Doxipin, Nortryptoline, Prevasid, and Propulsid. Could the nausea be caused be a hormonal or chemical imbalance? Do you have any suggestions for any medications or other treatments to have done? I've had an endoscopy, pH probe, gastric emptying test, and many CBC's done. The only abnormal test was the gastric emptying test...my stomach empties 2 times slower than normal. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Ann |

Response from Ms. Fields-Gardner
Nausea is one of those non-specific and difficult symptoms that is hard to pinpoint. There are many patient materials that cover diet-related tips for nausea. If gastric emptying is slow, it might help to stick to small and more frequent meals that are lower in fat. Also, try not to eat too quickly. In addition, some other strategies such as taking a refreshing walk before eating, avoiding food odors, and keeping your body upright after meals may help. Try eating with friends or music or TV or something else you find pleasant and distracting can help. Report any weight loss or vomiting to your physician. It is frustrating, no doubt. And many "fixes" are only transiently helpful, so you may have to try new things and retry old things that stopped working for a while. Hang in there! | ||||||||||
