| Herbal Detox Teas Jun 20, 2004 Hi Dr. Vergel, About six months ago, I made a conscious effort to cut back on my alcohol intake. I decided instead to drink detox teas to help maintain a healthy liver. Each night I would have a few cups of detox or deep cleansing teas. Since I began this, my AST and ALT numbers went from normal to almost triple the normal range. Could the high amounts of detox teas be responsible for the increase in these numbers? Thanks. |

Response from Mr. Vergel
Yes, be very careful with those teas since we hardly know what is in them. I would stop taking them. Drink green tea and take alpha lipoic acid at 200 mg/day, Vitamin E at 400 units a day and selenium at 200 micrograms a day with a good multivitamin for liver health instead. Nelson | |||||||||
