Dangerously high triglyceride level
May 24, 2004

Hi Nelson ,thank you for all your input.I am taking viramune and trizivir and i eat some ice cream once in a while and i love chocolate. My triglyceride level is up to 628 ,3 times the normal.I exersice 3 or 4 times a week and i eat alot of pasta and some garlic bread. So i was wondering how i could lower my level?I dont smoke and i drink a few beers a month.

Thank you

Response from Mr. Vergel

First of all, cut your sweets and pasta down. Refined carbohydrates can increase triglycerides substantially.

You may want to try some Omega 3 oil capsules at 1000 mg/day (ask for brands that do nothave a fishy after taste and always take the capsules in the middle of meals, not at the end). Carnitine at 2000 mg/day may also help bring triglycerides down. Keep exercising. If nothing else works, ask your doctor for a prescription for Tricor, a fibrate that is pretty effective for lowering triglycerides.

Nelson
