| Marathon or Ironman training May 12, 2004 What is your opinion on training and completing a marathon or a Ironman distance triathlon for an HIV positive individual under succesfull HAART treatment. The training would consist of about 15 - 18 hrs per week of cardio exercise with the actual event consisting from 4.5 hrs for a marathon to 15 hours for a Ironman. Should I give up my lofty goals and revert to a more traditional/normal cardio routine of 6 - 7 hours per week. Thanks for your help. Cardio Man |

Response from Mr. Vergel
There is no reason why you should not try it, unless you are underweight or losing weight (this kind of training may induce weight loss, as you know it). Just make sure that your energy intake (calories) are high enough to compensate for the extra activity. Also, it would be a good idea to know your body compositon and bone density before you start (talk to your doctor about this. You may want to get a DEXA test done). Good luck and go for it!
