Oxandrin and Anadrol...and my liver
Feb 17, 2004

Nelson:

Thanks for writing Built to Survive. There is nothing like it out there.

I started taking Reyataz plus Norvir after being on Oxandrin for 6 months and my bilirubin is going up fast. Should I be concerned? How about Anadrol, will it cause the same problem? I do not want to waste away! Please help! Eduardo

Response from Mr. Vergel

Oral anaboilic steroids can increase liver enzymes. Reyataz (with or without Norvir), a once a day protease inhibitor, is known to increase bilirubin ( what can make you yellow and jaundiced). I would not take oral anabolics on Reyataz since it will accelerate the bilirubin increase. You may want to talk to your doctor about deca durabolin, an injectable anabolic with no liver toxicity. But I would still watch my bilirubin closely. I wish BMS (Reyataz), Solvay (Anadrol) and Savient (Oxandrin) sent out warning to doctors about this! I have got several emails on this problem!
