High Liver Enzymes
Feb 11, 2004

Hi..I have recently found outt hat I have fatty infiltrations in my liver..my liver enzymes <sgpt's> they are in the 180's. Also I tested positive for Hep B... are there foods I shold avoid or foods I should eat?

Response from Mr. Vergel

Talk to your doctor if you are taking Zerit and Videx since these drugs can also cause fatty liver. Also, get your Hep B viral load tested to see if your Hep B is active. Viread and Epivir can help treat Hep B and HIV. As far as diet, there does not seem to be a consensus on this issue. Low sugar diets may or may not help decrease a fatty liver. Weight loss may also help obese patients with fatty liver. You may also want to talk to your doctor about the use of insulin sensitizers like Avandia or Actos since they also seem to reduce fat in the liver.

You may also want to post this question to Dr Dieterich in this site since he is one of the country's experts on liver health.
