Women and weight
Sep 6, 2003

I am a 29 yr old mother of 2 neg children, infected for 11 yrs, diagnosed with Depression, on Zoloft and Trizivir and having trouble with weight. I have never been sick but my appetite is horrible. I weigh about 95 lbs and always have but sometimes it drops to as low as 85 and it is extremely hard to get it back up because I could careless about eating. My goal is to not only keep myself at 95 lbs but maybe even reach 100 lbs one day. Do you have any advice that would help me to acheive my goal?

Response from Mr. Vergel

I am not a doctor so all I can tell you is my own experience with appetite loss. I have tried several anti depressants also but some decrease my appetite and give me sexual side effects. Remeron is an antidepressant that worked for me by helping me sleep (take it at night) and increasing my appetite significantly (it is one of its side effects). Talk to your doctor about it. It can cause sedation, so I started with a very low dose at night. I only took it for a month while I was going through a rough time. You can also talk to your doctor about Oxandrin, an anabolic agent that may be a good option for women at 10 mg/day. Marinol is also an appetite stimulant with THC (the ingredient of marijuana that increases appetite). But some people may not like the "stoned" feeling it may produce (It tends to improve after 4- 5 days for some). I hope this help!

Nelson
