wasted GUMS
Jul 19, 2003

Hi Nelson

Do you see very much wasted gums in persons with HIV?

Response from Mr. Vergel

I am sorry but oral complications are something I am not too familiar with. I will forward this to one of the doctors in the site. Nelson

Response from Dr. Boyle

Gum disease and poor dentition (teeth) are relatively common among HIV-infected patients; however, these are more often related to social issues and lack of access than to HIV. Gum disease can occur with HIV and a number of HIV-associated conditions (for example, Kaposi's sarcoma). It is strongly recommended that HIV-infected patients get appropriate dental care on a regular basis.
