Hi.sorry I know you are the wrong person, but I have emailed the workplace issues ladies a few times but it doesnt seem that they have checked the page in a while. I have questions about being HIV and insurance in California. I am currently on cobra(just started), but was thinking of moving to Germany possibly for good but not sure. Someone told me that I should never let my insurance in CA lapse or I might not be able to get it again. I will have insurance in Germany while I am there. Do you know who can answer this for me? Thanks so much for all your help. God bless

I am not an expert and can only speak from my own experience. If you are planning to come back to CA, I would hold on to COBRA and switch to a high risk policy after it lapses (you only have a few days to do so, otherwise you will have to have a year waiting period before you can make a claim)You may also convert your existing policy to a private one in some states. You may want to check this web site for a policy you can swicth to after Cobra. http://www.mrmib.ca.gov/MRMIB/MRMIPBRO.pdf
