Viracept & Combivir with fruit?
May 10, 2003

I am confused about which, if any, fruits I can eat with my doses of Viracept & Combivir. I know I am to take Viracept "with a meal, or light snack," but I am under the impression that some fruits, grapefruit for example, can interfere with the metabolism of some HIV meds. So, okay, no grapefruit. What about other fruits? I have, this is bad, I know, pretty much stopped eating fruits because of this. Please let me know if it is okay to eat fruits when I'm taking my dose of Viracept & Combivir, and if so, which are okay and which are no-way. Thanks. -Todd

Response from Mr. Vergel

There are no restrictions of any fruits while taking Combivir and Viracept (You know already that grapefruit may increase blood levels of protease inhibitors)Try to eat all kinds with all colors since every color represents a different antioxidant and bioflavoid profile.
