Bulking up after a long illness
Apr 3, 2008

Dear Nelson, I was diagnosed with HIV after landing in the hospital with non-hodgkins lymphoma last spring. I lost a lot of weight then and Im still struggling to gain it back. Do you have any advice on how i can bulk up? Thanks, Mike

Response from Mr. Vergel

If you can tolerate milk proteins, I would supplement your diet with two shakes a day made of whey protein and fruit (there are many good whey protein products out there). I would work out 3-4 times a week with weights or machines while keeping cardio to a minimun until you gain the weight you desire. There are supplements like Juven that have some clinical data behind them supporting increases in lean body mass (you may want to check prices at HIV Buyers Clubs: http://www.thebody.com/content/art31886.html)
