I was diagnosed with HIV and Hep B over 3 years ago. I've been on Trizivir since May of 2001, with Viread added to the mix in 2003. My MD checks my vl and CD4 every 3 months (they are currently 73/401), but he has never fully addressed my need for nutritional supplements. I only know what I've read about supplements here and in other websites/newsletters, so I've become confused as to what I actually need each day to maintain my health. Currently I take selenium 200mg., vitamin E 400IU, vitamin C, milk thistle, calcium with magnesium, and flaxseed oil caps each day along with a fairly balanced diet. How do I know what my individual needs are in the way of supplements, and should my doctor be formulating a nutritional program for me, besides exercise? I recently quit smoking and I'm using a nicotine patch, and I feel great!

Response from Mr. Vergel
You seem to be taking key ones but missing B vitamins. Try to take one B-100 capsule once a day with meals ( 100 mg of most B vitamins needed)on top of what you are already taking. It is very difficult to assess individual needs unless you get blood or tissue levels checked. There is a test I really like SpectraCell's FIA - Functional Intracellular Analysis.
