Acidophilus - how to use
Aug 5, 1999
I would like to start taking this supplement to see if it helps digestive problems with Viracept, 3TC, 4DT. The versions I find explicitly say to take on an empty stomach 1/2 hour before or after meals. Most others I've found trying to order on the Internet say to use as directed by a health-care professional.
I don't like taking this on an empty stomach, as I belch up a sour taste. I did see one brand with directions to take with or without meals. I'm wondering if there are different formulations of acidophilus, or if it really matters whether I take it with food.
Thanks,
Harvey

Response from Dr. Fisher

I don't tyhink it really matters. Unfortunately I don't think acidophilus will help the digestive problems you are experiencing. But you can certainly give it a try. Have you considered yogurt (with active cultures)? This might help also.
Alvan Fisher, M.D.
