Can I still eat sushi?
Jun 29, 2003
Good morning,
I recently tested positive and received very scary first labs. (T-cell 47 and vl 155,000) Now, a month later, my vl is 900 and my T-cell is 68. I want to make it as easy as possible for my body to rebuild my immune system. Should I become a vegatarian? Is red meat a no-no? I love sushi, can I still have that?
Your invaluable experience is greatly appreciated. THX

Response from Mr. Vergel

I would suggest you be careful with sushi or any uncooked meats at your T cell level (or any level, for that matter.) I would also make sure vegetables are properly washed and that the water you consume in properly treated. Eat lots of good proteins from lean meats, nuts, eggs, cheese, etc Eat vegetables and fruit of all colors. Vegetarian diets make it very hard to comply with the protein requirements that you need (unless you are an educated vegetarian who knows how to combine foods)
Your T cells are in their way up. Take your medications on time and ask your doctor to refer you to a HIV dietitian.
