Lifting weights
Jun 1, 2003
Nelson,
I seem to recall you telling some HIV+ person not to lift while their muscles were sore. Could you tell me why, as my muscles seem to be sore quite often? Are there any other limitations you'd put on lifting weights for positive persons?
Good luck with your treatments, and your exercise regimen, Thank you.

Response from Mr. Vergel

Muscle growth happens through the recovery phase. If your muscles are still sore, they have not recovered completely.
Try to warm up and stretch before your work outs to minimize injury and soreness.Go to these two web sites for details on that: www.hivfitness.org and read the warm up section here :http://www.exrx.net/WeightTraining/Guidelines.html
Also, if you are really having a lot of problems with soreness, have your doctor check your lactate levels to see if they are high. Carnitine supplements has been shown to decrease them in some non HIV studies.
