nutrition exercise and hiv positive

hi. I have heard people say hiv positive people should eat healthy, how does what one eats affect the hiv in thier syster. In other words how does nutrition play a part in an hiv positive person being healthy. If you are hiv positive and smoke how does that effect someone.

The right nutrition decisions can help manage high ldl cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and belly fat. Most protease inhibitors and Sustiva can cause increased lipids. Some people have increases in visceral and upper trunk fat while on HIV meds.

We have very little data on HIV and nutrition. But the general belief is that if we follow a "heart friendly" diet like a lower refined carbs or a Mediterranean diet, we can help to manage some of the metabolic changes that may occur with HIV and aging. Of course, exercise is also key for this purpose.
