Can HIV+ people have sugar or should they do without it altogether

Response from Mr. Vergel

The less sugar you eat , the better. Replace sugary foods with fruits. Sugar intake can worsen insulin resistance. Insulin resistance has been linked to lipodystrophy related abdominal fat and high triglycerides and cholesterol.Besides, there are several studies that show that high sugar intake can be suppressive to the immune system. A fungus called candida albicans (thrush) can also thrive under high sugar diets. Avoid sodas, bottled fruit juices, and anything that has corn syrup in its label. Eat more complex carbs like fruits and vegetables, oats (sugar free with fruit toppings), multi grain bread, etc I hope this helps out some. Nelson
